All characters are nameless by intention. The main character mistakenly stops at a stoplight right when it turns green. This was his route to his favorite coffee shop he took everyday, and knew it like the back of his hand. It’s also rare for that light to be green.
After seeing a couple that just finished crossing the sidewalk at that intersection, he began having a hallucination of a favorite thing he and his ex lover used to do all the time; going to that coffee shop together.
He is eventually shaken out of his trance after multiple cars impatiently honked at his car, understandably. When he arrives at the parking garage, still disoriented from his dream, he has more flashbacks of a memory while dissociating from reality. Moving in and out of what is, and used to be, in a very intoxicatingly personal way.
He was alone the entire time. It’s as if you’re experiencing two realities simultaneously, and eventually alchemize the one that allows healing and moves on.
This is what the experience of heartbreak and healing has been like for me. Thanks for reading!
