Back in 2019 when I visited family in Denver, Colorado, I was given the unique opportunity to photograph the world of Seattle Fish Company. With my huge coat, dock boots and glasses, I was certainly out of my element. But hey, why not lean into it! I explored as much of the facility as I could. From the loading docks, to the fillet stations and finally Derek Figueroa’s office, I witnessed each leg of the business. I loved being able to photograph the intricate details of the work being done. And more importantly, the humanity behind it. The smiles and curiosity from the crew stuck with me. I distinctly remember making a little cup of coffee in the break room and visiting with the people around me. And four years later, I can still reflect on how special of a day that was. To Seattle Fish Company, thank you for showing me who you are. We’ll have to cross paths again!
