I like to think of my favorite shops and experiences in the coffee world like tattoos. Hear me out.
When something is right. When something resonates deeply with you, even if you can’t fully articulate it at the time. Even if it just seems like another coffee… connection has a way of leaving its mark. Sons of Liberty is one of those places to me. It really is its own, unique world. You walk in and the beautiful, industrial architectural design strikes you. The coffee nerdiness through and through cultivates a silver lining of connection. And being located in downtown Fort Worth completes the whole scene. It’s a place that, above all, feels like a little home away from home to me. Coming off the heels of the prominent third wave scene in Southern California, Sons is a pretty sweet find in a city known for its heritage with cattle.
More recently on August 10th, 2024, Sons hosted their first Latte Art Throwdown. Wanting to be at the event anyways, I asked Eder the day before if I could bring the camera along for a few side shots. One thing led to another, and I ended up photographing the entire event.
The throwdown was just straight up fun to be apart of, but I ended up feeling very close with the Sons crew and everyone involved. I was behind bar the majority of the time, trying to get some of the unique moments mixed in. From the contestants chatting right before prepping to the intricate details in pouring their art, I loved watching all of it. I organized all the photos in chronological order, with details of the shop first and the winning pours at the end.
To Sons, the night was a success. And thank you for letting me take the reigns on documenting your first latte art event. I’ll never forget it.
Now it’s time to host some more!
